Make your environment work for you

The physical cues in our environment influence the moment-to-moment decisions we make. Most of us are tempted to take a candy from a bowl left on our desk, but if the candy is in a drawer, down the hall, or still at the store, we aren’t tempted to the same extent.

Cues in the physical environment can also prompt other healthy behavior like active living. Leaving an extra pair of runners in your office is a reminder to go walking during the lunch hour, and you won’t have to remember to bring the right foot gear to work. For many of us, thinking about how the physical environment encourages or discourages healthy choices is a new way of looking at our surroundings.
