How active is active enough?

The amount of activity we need to maintain good health depends on our age. Children and adolescents require more physical activity than adults or seniors - 7 hours versus 2.5 hours of moderate to vigorous activity per week – but everyone needs to be active!

Moderate intensity activities make you breathe harder, and your heart beat faster. You should be able to talk, but not sing.

Vigorous intensity activities make you breathe so hard that you won’t be able to say more than a few words without needing to catch your breath.

Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines for Canadians of all ages:

0-4 year olds

5-11 year olds

12-17 year olds

18-64 year olds

65 years and older
