Busy lives

It used to be easy to get 9 hours of sleep. For most of human history, we were active when the sun was up, and at rest or asleep when the sun went down. Not anymore!  Modern living has brought shift-work and jet-lag.  All night convenience stores, video games, satellite TV and the Internet make it possible for us to play, read, socialize, gamble and even shop 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our sleep suffers as a result.

We also live very busy lives. We stay up late, or get up early, to squeeze even more into our days.

We seem to think that sleep is optional – we schedule meetings and appointments, but when was the last time you scheduled sleep?

The sleep-wake cycle is as natural, and as necessary, as the air we breathe.
