Active video games

Active video games are an attempt to use technology to get kids more active.  Seems like a good idea.  The question is do they work?

Active Healthy Kids Canada put this question to an international group of experts.  They concluded:

Active Healthy Kids Canada DOES NOT RECOMMEND active video games as a strategy to help kids be more physically active.

  • Active video games are not as good for our health as being active through sport, recreation or physical activity that's part of everyday living (like walking to the store, or doing chores around the house).
  • Active video games are a better choice than less active screen time (like surfing the 'net or watching TV).
